A few quiet minutes in the chair, and a lot to learn.
There are no needles, no machines and nothing to study for. You will rest comfortably in the dental chair while your provider gently checks how your body responds with your mouth in a few different positions. It takes just a few minutes, and it doesn't hurt.
Children usually think it's a game, and we like it that way. We put the FUN in FUNction.
Your provider is watching how your body responds to the swallow and the bite. Put simply: are the messages from your mouth coming through clearly, or is the body working around them?
The answer is a snapshot of how things are working today. It may look different on another day, or after treatment, and that is part of what makes it useful. Watching how it changes over time tells your provider more than any one reading.
Your provider will talk with you about what they saw and how it fits with everything else they know about you or your child. SWITCH never makes a decision on its own. It helps your provider choose where to start, and it gives you both a simple way to see how things are going along the way.
People do not want to be told they have a problem without being offered a solution. If SWITCH shows that the body is working hard to compensate, your provider will explain the options and help you decide what is right for your family.
